California Consumer Protection Foundation | For Grant Seekers

Eligibility: In general, grants are made to 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) organizations, tribes, and public agencies to benefit consumers in California. California-based applicants are preferred, but others may be considered given their unique expertise, the potential benefits of the project to California consumers, and the extent of their relationships with community-based organizations in California that may also be engaged in the same field. California Consumer Protection Foundation (CCPF) particularly encourages requests for support in programs and activities that respond to the needs of people with disabilities. Application Process - Just Two Steps?

Our two-stage application process has been designed to minimize the time and effort required by applicants prior to the initial submission of their proposals.

Applicants must complete and submit a two-page Application Form and three-page letter of intent by the application submission deadlines. Submissions must be in MS Word format and sent via email, to CCPF at admin@consumerfdn.org.

1) Application Form and Letter of Intent

Application Form

The application form serves as a summary coversheet for your request and the narrative section should be completed even though you will also submit a Letter of Intent (i.e., do not write "See Letter of Intent" or "See Proposal" on the application form).

You can download the application in Microsoft Word format from the Forms & Resources page - please do not exceed the two-page format for the application form.

Letter of Intent

The Letter of Intent is a rough draft or outline of a proposal. A Letter of Intent should address the following topics and not exceed three pages:

The purpose of your organization and who it serves in general.
The specific problem or need the proposed project seeks to address (the use of national statistics to describe a local problem or need is generally not helpful).
The proposed activities, goals and measurable objectives.
The expertise or experience your organization has to implement the project.
Other agencies or individuals who will be involved.
The total amount of the budget for the proposed project and the amount requested from the Foundation.
Other funds the applicant is seeking to fully implement the project.
What the applicant will do if CCPF cannot fulfill the requested amount.

No other materials are accepted or required with the Application Form and Letter of Intent. All materials submitted to CCPF for review shall not be returned to grantees

2) Full Proposal

Do not submit a full proposal unless you HAVE received a specific invitation to do so from CCPF. Decisions are made on the basis of your application and letter of intent.

CCPF will send you guidelines and forms for submitting a full proposal and selected applicants will have roughly one month to prepare a proposal.

Download a copy of the Full Proposal Guidelines and required forms from the Forms & Resources page. You will also receive an email that includes:

The requested amount that CCPF will consider
Assigned proposal number (please reference this number on all correspondence and submissions to CCPF)
Assigned program officer

You will need to re-submit your Application Form (which should reflect any changes to your proposal) with the Full Proposal Budget and Narrative (as a file attachment, preferably in ZIP file) on or before the deadline to the following TWO email addresses:

To CCPF’s office at admin@consumerfdn.org

In addition you will need to make TWO original, signed HARD COPIES of your Application Form, Budget and Proposal Narrative including all other attachments and mail a copy to each of the following addresses:
